What’s New for the 2018 Hyundai Kona?
The automotive world is reaching fever pitch as it anticipates the introduction of the 2018 Hyundai Kona, an all-new compact utility vehicle. Hyundai harnesses all the excitement, energy and activity of the famous Hawaiian district of Kona, known world-wide for its delicious coffee. And you’ll love the delicious new Hyundai Kona with its dynamic ride and fun-to-drive handling.
Kona is built on the new Hyundai Superstructure platform with a high-strength steel chassis, front struts and a multi-link/torsion-beam rear suspension. The standard engine is a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle I-4 outputting 147 and 132 lb-ft of torque into a six-speed automatic transmission. You can upgrade to a 1.6-liter turbo-4 engine with 175 horsepower, 195 lb-ft and a dual-clutch, seven-speed automatic. All-wheel drive will be an available option. Wheel diameters vary from 16 to 18 inches. You can select three driving modes, Eco, Sport and Normal. Designed in California, the expressive Kona is nimbly-sized with beefy body cladding at the wheel wells and bumpers, long wheelbase, short overhangs, shark-fin C pillars, raked windshield and a semi-floating roof. Kona is 70.9 inches wide, 61.0 inches high and has a 102.4-inch wheelbase. The LED headlamps are stacked below the running lights. The interior includes a standard 7.0-inch floating infotainment display screen, and higher trim levels add roof rails, leather seats, power sunroof, an 8.0-inch screen, heated seats and a head-up pop-up display. Expect a large array of available active safety features for the 2018 Hyundai Kona. These include rear park sensors, rain-sensing wipers, daytime running lights, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, a driver-attention monitor, automatic high-beams, and forward-collision warning with automated emergency braking.
