What’s New for the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe?
At the tail end of its third production cycle, the Hyundai Santa Fe received a major refresh. With its 2017 model year, the Santa Fe has new exterior lights, Android Auto (for controlling infotainment features with an Android device) is now standard on all trims, and there are new available advanced electronic safety and driver assistance aids. The midsize crossover is split into four variants: SE, Limited, SE Ultimate, and Limited Ultimate.
The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe’s workhorse is the Lambda II: a 3.3-liter V6 engine that churns out 290 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque. The V6 is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Although the standard drivetrain on the Santa Fe is front-wheel drive, you can go with an all-wheel drivetrain instead for greater traction ability. The Santa Fe is one of the few midsize crossover SUVs that has three rows of seats. However, it’s worth noting that the SE and SE Ultimate have two captain’s seats at the second row to keep maximum occupancy at six; the other two trims have a second-row bench style seat to increase capability to seven occupants. At the front, Hyundai gives the driver’s seat 8-way power adjustability and 4-way power lumbar support. Upgrading to the Limited introduces leather trim, 4-way power adjustability on the front passenger seat, and front-seat heating capability. And on the SE Ultimate or Limited Ultimate, you’d also get front-seat cooling capability, second-row heating capability, and a memory system for the driver’s side. Base-level comfort and convenience features on the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe include HD Radio, six-speaker audio with a 7-inch screen and three-month trial subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity for streaming audio and hands-free phone operation, a rearview camera, steering wheel-mounted controls, dual-zone front automatic climate control, and Hyundai’s Blue Link suite of services that includes vehicle service scheduling and SOS emergency assistance. Hyundai adds features like auto dimming on the rearview mirror, a universal transceiver for remote-controlling home features such as garage doors and security systems, and a proximity key entry system with push-button engine start. The Ultimate trims have several more additions and upgrades, such as heating capability on the steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, an 8-inch touchscreen navigation system, 12-speaker premium audio, and a 360-degree camera. For injury prevention in the event of a crash, the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe has two front impact airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, dual front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and dual roof-mounted side-curtain airbags flanking all rows. Also standard on the Santa Fe are hill start assist, electronic vehicle stability control system with traction control, downhill brake control, and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes. On the Limited trim, Hyundai adds blind spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert and lane change assist.
